The chequered flag has been synonymous of F1 and motorsport for decades, having been used to signal the ends of races since the early 1900s. Although its origins are disputed, it was likely chosen for its visibility against varying background and for those going at high speeds.

For F1, the chequered flag has been used since 1950 - when F1 began. As the years have gone on, it has come to symbolise the crowning moments and the culmination of the excitement and thrilling on-track battles between the world’s greatest drivers.
